School Library Media Coordinator of the Year Award
This award is open to any member of NCTIES who is a library media coordinator in a school library media center providing services to students and teachers in grades K-12. A minimum of three years experience in a school library media center is required.

RECOGNITION AND PRIZES
Nominees will receive a one-year complimentary NCTIES membership.
The Winner will receive a $500.00 award and a $250.00 stipend for conference expenses for the 2011 NCTIES conference.

GUIDELINES
NCTIES members may nominate individuals they feel are deserving of recognition. Nominees will also be solicited from the regional directors of NCTIES, and media supervisors across North Carolina.
  • Required nomination materials are complete and submitted by deadline.
  • The nominee’s work can be used as a model.
  • The nominee agrees to present the award for School Library Media Coordinator of the Year Award for the 2011-2012 NCTIES conference.

Nominations must be emailed by TBD.

Nominations must include the following:
  • Nomination cover page.
  • Recommendation letter from one of these: principal, supervisor, superintendent
  • Narrative description of nominee’s service, leadership, professional involvement, and philosophy concerning information technology, no more than 2 pages-doubled spaced.
  • Personal statement of technology utilization by nominee, no more than 1 page-doubled spaced.

Nominations may also include the following support materials:
  • Digital photos (limit 6), web sites (limit 2), or video evidence not to exceed 5 minutes, may be submitted as well but are not required. Lesson plans and student work may be included here. Support materials beyond the three page narrative cannot exceed ten pages.

JUDGING CRITERIA

The School Library Media Specialist of the Year Award is for individual excellence in the library media field. Factors that will be considered by the committee are:

  • Service to students, teachers, and the K-12 community. Collaborates with all staff, and students to evaluate and select resources addressing curricular needs and 21st century learning goals
  • Evidence of personal leadership in roles of teacher, information specialist and instructional consultant
  • Evidence of professional involvement, strong personal philosophy of information technology utilization, actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.

Outstanding Teacher/Instructional Technology Specialist of the Year
The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding achievement in implementing technology to improve education in grades K-12. Nominees must be a member of NCTIES and must be on contract for the upcoming school year to receive the prizes which accompany this award.

The winner will receive a $500.00 award and a $250.00 stipend for conference expenses for the 2011 NCTIES conference.

  • The nominee agrees to present the award for Outstanding Teacher/Instructional Technology Specialist for the 2011-2012 NCTIES conference.
  • The nominee agrees (per NCTIES Board approval) to submit application for the ISTE Outstanding Teacher Award for the following year.

Nominations must include the following:

Nomination cover page.
  • Letter of nomination.
  • Letter of support for nomination from immediate supervisor with performance evaluation responsibility.
  • Personal statement of technology utilization by nominee.
  • Objective evidence that the nominee has met established teaching criteria through his or her outstanding classroom practices. This evidence may be submitted as a narrative of nominee's achievements consisting of not more than three (3) one-sided double-spaced 8-1/2 x 11 pages. Description of nominee's current teaching assignment must be included.
  • The evidence narrative should include examples of exceptional abilities in the categories listed below:
  • Develop or use instructional resources creatively and effectively that reflects what students need to know and exhibit in a global society.
  • Incorporate innovative and verified effective instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrates his/her ability to plan for and incorporate the use of technology in the educational setting.
  • Utilize the North Carolina Standard Course of Study curriculum standards for content area AND for technology and information skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to foster a spirit of inquiry and the development of skills related to acquiring, organizing, processing, and using information and technology skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to foster the development of character, values, and ethics for use of information and technology resources appropriate to students' grade level in classroom, school, and community settings.
  • Evidence of professional involvement in activities such as personal learning networks, workshops, curriculum development, committees, and other association activities, etc

Support materials beyond the three page narrative cannot exceed ten pages. Lesson plans and student work may be included here. OPTIONAL SUPPORT MATERIALS: digital photos, web sites, or video evidence not to exceed 5 minutes, may be submitted as well but are not required.
